Melanie Stace

Melanie Stace, the popular co-presenter of BBC Televisions The Generation Game for five years, quickly became a household name in her own right and a well-known personality, much in demand both on TV and in theatre.

Melanie is a fully trained singer, dancer and actress. She has appeared in many diverse productions ranging from Shakespeare to Pantomime.

Musicals have always played an important part in Melanie’s career.

She played the leading role of Louise in Gypsy at The Everyman in Cheltenham and was also in Follies at The Dome Theatre, Brighton.

She has also starred in many musical reviews including 1540AD, West End to Broadway, The Greatest Shows in Town and The Magic of the Musicals in Concert, both at the Bournemouth International Centre and recently at The Royal Opera House Jersey.

Melanie starred to great critical acclaim as April in the British National Tour of the Olivier Award Winning musical, Hot Shoe Shuffle.

She also played Lola in Barry Manilows’ Copacabana at the Prince Of Wales Theatre in the West-End.

Other notable roles include Miss Pepper in David Wood’s The Gingerbread Man and Clara Barley in the original cast of Great Expectations for Theatr Clwyd. Displaying her versatility she also played Mustardseed in The Crucible Theatre Sheffield’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, at the Greek National Theatre in Athens.

Melanie was first introduced to television viewers when she became the co-presenter of The Generation Game.

Judging from the amount of fan mail that soon became pouring in, Melanie had quickly become a favourite and was awarded the accolade of ‘best legs on television’.

During her time, the show was nominated twice consecutively for Best Light Entertainment Show at the National Television Awards.

To crown her success, she was also one of the stars chosen to appear in The Royal Variety Performance in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales. Melanie has guest starred on many TV shows such as : Through the Keyhole, All-Star Family Fortunes, ITV’S Year Of Promise, Children In Need and Open House with Gloria Hunniford.

Most recently, she was one of the celebrity judges on Britain’s Brilliant Prodigies for Carlton TV.

In the summer of 2001, Melanie was invited to appear in Love Potion No.9 - A Tribute to Leiber and Stoller, at The Hammersmith Apollo.

In Autumn 2001, Melanie devised and starred in a new song and dance show with Wayne Sleep. Ready, Steady Dance was an extremely successful collaboration and received rave reviews.

In Autumn 2002, Melanie was invited to another area when she played the role of Suzanne in the Mark Camoletti farce, Don’t Dress For Dinner.

In 2003, Melanie starred alongside Tim Flavin in Hollywood and Broadway.

Also in 2003, she recorded her first album How Lucky, which features twelve of her favourite songs, including duets with Petula Clark and Tim Flavin.

Melanie was invited to play the coveted lead role of Polly Baker in the new Gershwin Musical Crazy For You, and spent most of 2004 playing to sell-out business with the show.

Melanie spent Christmas and New Year performing her new one woman show onboard the QE2 and the QM2 and she has recently performed her new show at The Pizza On The Park in London.
